Following the upsurge of violence in Tshwane last week, the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) expressed a concern, that something was wrong with the way our society addresses issues. They said all South Africans needed to change their currency of engagement, and go beyond the violent manifestations of people's frustration and anger, to addressing the root causes beyond them. The concern is that if this currency of engagement is not changed, it will have dire consequences for the country's democracy. The CSVR called for what they term 'social re-engineering, which they say needs to start with gaining the trust of communities and by building accountable and responsive systems.
