he African continent has a diversity of languages. About 2000 African languages are spoken throughout the continent. These languages can be categorised into four main groupings, namely; Afro-Asiatic: with appoximately 200 languages which covers Northern Africa, including the horn of Africa and Central Sahara. The second group is the Nilo-Saharian, which includes 140 languages in Central and Eastern Africa. Niger-Saharian covers two thirds of Africa with Niger-Congo gathering more than 1000 languages. The Bantu languages of Central, Southern, and Eastern Africa form a sub-group of the Niger Congo branch. The Khoisan has about thirty languages in Western part of Southern Africa.
