On the 3rd of August, South Africa will hold local government elections. As the day nears, we are seeing an increase in service delivery protests across the country, most notable Zandspuit, and Vuwani where residents are against decision to merge their municipality with Malumelele. The Constitution, which is now 20 years, states that local government must provide democratic and accountable government for local communities; ensure the provision of services to local communities in a sustainable manner, as well as to promote social and economic development.
