South Africa is over-exploiting its freshwater resources and water could be a large constraint on the implementation of the National Development Plan. That’s according to a study by the Water Research Commission and the Institute for Security Studies. It shows that even with all the planned interventions‚ water withdrawals will exceed supply every year through to 2035. Using the international futures forecasting system‚ the study forecasts that water withdrawals at municipal‚ industrial and in agriculture will increase over the next 20 years. Our guests are Mr Zachary Donnenfeld - Who is a researcher at the Institute for Security Studies Africa (ISS) and Mr Bhesigan Naidoo - Who is the CEO for the Water Research Commission
