Racial tensions at the University of Pretoria and the University of Free State has reached a boiling point. Students at both institutions are protesting over the use of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction. UFS has since suspended classes following a violent brawl between Outsourcing-Must-Fall protesters and spectators at a varsity cup rugby game on Monday night. Furthermore, protesters want an end to outsourced employment of cleaners at the institution. Meanwhile, the University of Pretoria has proposed that all its lectures be offered in English only. On the Forum@8 this morning we ask - What do students propose as a solution to the current problem at our university? Should we be concerned about such racial tensions spilling over into broader society? Our guests: Henrico Barnard Afriforum member at the University of Pretoria, Itumeleng Lecheko - National Organiser of Socialist Youth Movement at the University of Free State, Chantelle Du Preez - Who is the Chairperson of AfriForum Youth Kovsies at the University of Free State and Junior Ackotia - Who is a member of the South African Students Congress' Gauteng provincial task team
