The Auditor-general, Kumi Makwetu, has reported a slight improvement in the provincial and national audit for the 2014-15 financial year. He says the slight improvement lays squarely on what he terms 'the slow response' in addressing audit recommendations. Such recommendations are aimed at improving internal control systems and eliminating governance risks. Makwetu says if it wasn't for the slow response to those recommendations, both the national and provincial governments would have recorded impressive audit results. The AG of South Africa has a constitutional mandate, to strengthen our country's democracy by enabling oversight, accountability and governance in the public sector through auditing, thereby building public confidence.
