INTRO: Following its four day lekgotla in Pretoria, the African National Congress has called on mining companies to review their plan to shed thousands of jobs. Major mining companies including Lonmin, Anglo Platinum and Kumba Iron Ore, announced their plans last week, to lay off about fourteen thousand workers due to low commodity prices. Economists have also warned that South Africa’s economy could be at risk of going into a recession, as mining companies go into survival mode.
