In the past few weeks the heritage of South Africa has been put on the spotlight... first it was a Xu! Chief at the ANC's January 8 statement calling on the spirit of Jan van Riebeek to -voetsek- from the Green Point stadium during a prayer.... over the weekend, former PA to uTata uNelson Mandela, Zelda la Grange, tweeted that she was thinking of calling Jan (van Riebeek) to ask him what the hell he was thinking when sailed to Africa.... and the renaming of a short street in Cape Town after the last aparthied President F W de Klerk caused a stir... Are there some parts of our heritage- history- past that we would like to obliterate? Should we rename every street, every monument and dorpie that reflects the heritage we so wish to forget? On the Forum at eight this morning we ask; How do we define our Heritage as South Africa?
