The World Health Organization has called the current Ebola virus outbreak "the most severe, acute health emergency seen in modern times". The epidemic has killed more than four-thousand people, mainly in the West African countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. The number of reported cases stands at more than 8 300.
