The Sabbath, whether as a day, half-day, or even a moment, is our chance to exhale, cease from productivity and receive God's good gifts. Here's a refreshing and practical glimpse at the most ignored Ten Commandment.

Margaret Fienberg says, "...the Sabbath isn't about what is done or left undone as much as breathing in the goodness of God. The more I inhaled, the more I desired another long breath."

Ideas for your Sabbath:

  • Do whatever feels life-giving
  • Feast (eat differently on the other 6 days)
  • Gather as a family right before the Sabbath and throw ideas in a box, then pick 1 or 2 out for that day
  • Light a candle as you kick off Sabbath with a lovely dinner and talk about your favorite part of the Sabbath and what makes it challenging
  • Go to a worship service
  • Don't set an alarm
  • Be in nature
  • Invite friends to dinner
  • Play, create, do nothing of significance
  • Pray, bless each other, bless strangers
