In today’s conversation, Dani talks with Tom Swaffield, a first year farmer and practiced forager. Tom’s yearning for finding his own roots stems from a childhood of moving around, A LOT, and he now finds himself on a journey to the wildest of spaces as he seeks to find a space to call "home".
The conversation starts light and airy, like it typically does, and quickly shifts into some of the more challenging, stickier things that Tom has faced: his years of struggling with an opioid addiction, ending an 8 year relationship with his first long-term love, + finding the courage to live his authentic path even when it seems so different than those around him.
They also discussed:
soil restoration
how his current job at Slice of Heaven Organic Farms has served as a massive expander for his dreams of owning his own micro farm someday
living a fruitful, sustainable life
how his restaurant industry position(s) lead him to foraging accidentally
how his major jumping off the cliff moments have lead to his super aligned life today
the ending of Tom’s first long-term relationship
how Tom and his ex have been able to keep a friendship beyond their uncoupling
how chasing higher complexity in every aspect of life has been a theme in Tom’s life
how dating has not been a top priority since moving to Oregon for various reasons
the shame Tom still experiences when thinking about his addictive past
what Tom’s current insecurities look like
Tom’s theme for 2020
Tom’s words for 2020
Words of wisdom from Tom
