Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health Minister, said on Tuesday that a government panel of experts was looking at AY.4.2, a Delta coronavirus subvariant thought to have caused a rise in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the United Kingdom.

The UK health security agency announced last week that it was looking into AY.4.2 because it was potentially more transmissible than Delta, while there was no evidence that it caused more severe sickness or rendered vaccines useless. The UK authorities identified it as a variation under investigation (VUC).
