Former India wicketkeeper and chief selector MSK Prasad has reiterated that Rahul Dravid is the ideal candidate to replace Ravi Shastri as India's head coach. Shastri's contract comes to a close after the T20 World Cup in the UAE and Dravid is the front runner to replace the World Cup winner. It emerged on the night of the Indian Premier League 2021 final that Rahul Dravid agreed to take over from Ravi Shastri as the head coach after the T20 World Cup. Dravid met BCCI top brass, including president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, in the UAE following which the National Cricket Academy chief gave his consent to be India's next head coach. MSK Prasad, who had worked with Shastri during his tenure as the chief selector, said Dravid will be able to easily adapt to the team environment after Shastri's departure and the former India captain is the ideal candidate if India is looking to continue their successful run in international cricket. Notably, Dravid worked with the Indian team as the head coach during their tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year. Dravid oversaw a side led by Shikhar Dhawan in limited-overs series while Virat Kohli's side was involved in the 5 Test series in England. Dravid is likely to bring his trusted aide and former India fast bowler Paras Mhambrey who will replace Bharat Arun. However, batting coach Vikram Rathour is likely to continue with the senior national team.
