Deworming Messages for the Community

• All pre-primary, primary and junior secondary schools in Bunyala sub

county only will deworm their children on the scheduled Deworming Day:

20th June 2023.
• Those in the nearby sub counties close to the boundary may not be prohibited from the essential services, if they visit the neighbouring schools within Budalangi.
• The service is a national program that is available in public hospitals in Kenya for free.

• Parents, take all your children aged 2-14 years to the nearest primary

school on Deworming Day for treatment that can improve their health and

education!

• Primary school teachers have been trained to administer free deworming

tablets to all children in all schools

• Remember, ALL CHILDREN, whether enrolled or not enrolled in school, are

eligible for free deworming treatment at the nearest Primary School

Information about Deworming Medicines and Side Effects

  1. The Programme targets two types of worms: soil-transmitted helminthes

(or common worms) and schistosomes, which cause bilharzia.

  1. The medicine used to treat common worms is called Albendazole and the

medicine used to treat bilharzia is Praziquantel.

  1. These tablets are very safe, effective, free, and are provided by the

Government of Kenya. These are the same tablets given at health

facilities.

  1. Side effects are rare and mild. They can include: stomach pain, vomiting,

and feeling tired. These will go away after some time.

  1. Those children that have the most worms are more likely to experience

these side effects.

  1. If the child’s condition is very severe, it is probably unrelated to the

treatment and you should take him/her to the nearest health facility.

  1. Health personnel will be available to support teachers on Deworming Day

  2. Children should eat something before taking Praziquantel tablets for

bilharzia

  1. ALL children 2-14 years in Bunyala sub county only will be treated for

common worms. Children aged 6-14 will also be treated for bilharzia.
