The SCAMPER method forces you to think in foreign and novel directions. It stands for (S) substitute, (C) combine, (A) adapt, (M) minimize/magnify, (P) put to another use, (E) eliminate, and (R) reverse. It utilizes the general concept of force fitting, which is when you force unfamiliar concepts and ideas together mentally, thereby creating necessarily new patterns of thought.
