Today, we delve into the genealogy of Shem, the firstborn of Noah. In looking at his descendants we discover that we are only given information on two of his sons. We discuss the fact that these are not meant to be totally exhaustive genealogies, but that they are quite important, especially in key people so that we can trace lineage back, in some cases to Noah, but also to Adam.
Furthermore, we look into the great-grandson of Arpachshad who is Peleg. We note from Ch. 11 that it is from Peleg's descendants that we get the nation of Israel. But even more than that, from this chapter, we encounter an interesting phrase about why he is named that and we look into what that could possibly mean with regard to the flood and the state of the world.
