All of Gen. 16 is one narrative unit which I have titled "A Tale of Weak Faith."

In vv. 1-6 we learned that 1) Attempting to Help God can lead to complications.

Then, in vv. 7-15 we began to discuss the idea that 2) God is merciful in spite of our Sin.

We see that a) In spite of sin, life goes on and God still works with us and desires our obedience (vv. 7-8).

And b) Do the right thing (v. 9).

Then, there is the c) Promise of protection in spite of sin (vv. 10-12).

Finally, we see d) Worship: accomplished through recognizing God’s acts and obeying him (vv. 13-15).

And, as a end-cap we discuss the implications of Abram's age in v. 16.
