As we begin to work through chapter 17, it is worth noting that from a structural standpoint, this chapter is divided into a speech section (vv. 1-21) and an action section (vv. 22-27).

We begin looking at the speeches with the first that the LORD makes to Abram in vv. 1-2 where we learn that 1) God call his people to be faithful.
