Genesis 17 is divided into a speech section (vv. 1-21) and an action section (vv. 22-27).

We began looking at the speeches with the first that the LORD makes to Abram in vv. 1-2 where we learned that 1) God call his people to be faithful.

Now, in vv. 3-8 we learn that 2) God pledges his promises to the faithful by giving a new name.
