Genesis 17 is divided into a speech section (vv. 1-21) and an action section (vv. 22-27).

We began looking at the speeches with the first that the LORD makes to Abram in vv. 1-2 where we learned that 1) God call his people to be faithful.

Then, in vv. 3-8 we learned that 2) God pledges his promises to the faithful by giving a new name.

In vv. 9-14 we saw that 3) God gives a sign of his covenant.

Now, in vv. 15-21 (or 22) we learn that 4) God Plans to fulfill his promises in ways that seem impossible.

And finally, in vv. 22-27 we see that 5) God's promises should prompt obedience.
