We continue our discussion of the church in worship having introduced the topic of the positive mandate that women learn (2:11), and also its negative counterpoint: the prohibition against them being a pastor (2:12). Thankfully, we are not left without reason for this mandate and vv. 13-15 give us that reason. Here, we discover that it is much more than cultural.

In vv 13-14 we examine 1) The History of the mandate, where we discuss the order of creation and precise description of the fall of mankind. This is key to understanding the prohibition. The fact that Eve was deceived when she disobeyed the mandate of the Garden and Adam was not is vital to understanding this prohibition. She even sinned before Adam did, and yet in Romans 5, we hold Adam accountable for plunging the human race into sin. It is here that we spend our time in this episode.
