As we stated previously: this narrative section goes all the way to Gen. 28:9 and is the account of the deceitful blessing that Jacob obtained for himself, though at great personal cost.

There are tremendous lessons to work through in this narrative. We discuss the fact that each main character in this narrative is at fault, and that there are no real positive lessons in this. Let it be a warning to us all.

This longer section is framed at both ends with statements about Esau's marriages, which is interesting.

Then, the rest of it can be divided into several scenes - each of which teach us valuable lessons.

The first, from 27:1-5 teaches us that 1) God’s people create tensions by attempting to set aside God’s will for their will.

The second, from 27:6-17 teaches us that 2) God’s people often attempt to ensure God’s plan for blessing by deceptive, manipulative measures.

The third, from 27:18-29 teaches us that 3) God’s people may appear to achieve success through their manipulative measures.
