As we begin our journey through the Psalms, an understanding of the book's structure as well as some important characteristics of poetry would be more than helpful. If we misinterpret the metaphorical writing, we can miss the entire point of these masterworks. But knowing some of the basics of Hebrew poetry can help us  not only understand but also participate in these beautiful expressions of the human heart-cry.
