As culture continues to drift into extremes and consider the other side as being wrong, and not just wrong, but either morally deficient or blind, there must be a better way to live. While determining who is and is not in a group is a tried-and-true tactic of creating community, it also leads to labeling. And labels lead to dehumanizing and normalizing treating others poorly. Jesus, however, stated simply that we were to love our neighbors (and our enemies). Paul affirmed there were not special designations. So why do we fall back into familiar patterns? We should live out community, each bringing our ideas and messy lives and figure out how to love each other (even if we don’t always agree). I think that is where we find the unbroken ground- right in the middle of community.
